  Why 3.5mm, specifically:

  Punch length is a depth choice, not a diameter choice — 3.5mm sits in the middle of Scharf’s available lengths (2.5–5mm) at this bore size. The right length for a given case depends on the donor area’s anatomy (skin and tissue depth) and the surgeon’s own clinical judgment on the day, rather than one length being correct for every patient. 3.5mm is a common middle-ground choice when the surgeon isn’t reaching for either extreme of the range.
